2020-2022 Ford Explorer Models Recalled Due to Lose Power

Ford is set to recall 238,364 Explorer SUVs to fix the problem causing the vehicle to lose power and roll away when the parking brake isn’t applied. The problem is rising in the 2022 model year Explorers caused by the defective subframe in the rear axle bolt.

If the bolt fails, according to the NHTSA safety recall report, the axle housing can be moved out from its set position, and the driver tends to hear loud grinding, binding, or clunking noises.
Ford addressed the issue in 2022 by updating the vehicle’s powertrain control module software, which focuses on engaging the electronic parking brake whenever the car is in park mode.

In September 2023, Ford told NHTSA the vehicle had a series of problems where the company had reviewed 396 reports of axle bolt failures in these models. Ford mentioned less than 5 per cent of them are “a roll in the park or due to loss of motive power condition. The Ford Explorer SUV owners will soon receive the recall notification starting November 6.
