The headquarters of the Japanese multinational automaker Isuzu Motors Ltd. are located in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture. Manufacturing, promoting, and selling Isuzu commercial vehicles and diesel engines is its main line of business.

UD Trucks, Anadolu Isuzu, Sollers-Isuzu, SML Isuzu, Jiangxi Isuzu Motors, Isuzu Astra Motor Indonesia, Isuzu Malaysia, Industries Mécaniques Maghrébines, Isuzu UK, Isuzu South Africa, Isuzu Philippines, Taiwan Isuzu Motors, Isuzu Vietnam, Isuzu Motors India, and BYD Isuzu are some of the company's joint ventures and subsidiaries.

Since the company was founded under earlier names, Isuzu has operated assembly and production facilities in Fujisawa, as well as in the prefectures of Tochigi and Hokkaido. Most commercial vehicle markets worldwide now offer Isuzu-branded automobiles, including theUSA. Their main focus is on the commercial diesel-powered bus, truck, and construction equipment markets.

Isuzu's characters are called after the Isuzu River and translate to "fifty bells." Isuzu left the US consumer market in 2009 due to low sales. Isuzu has historically focused mostly on producing medium-heavy and larger commercial vehicles as well as small to medium-compact cars, however, there are differences in demand across global markets.

Isuzu Motors America ceased marketing passenger cars in the US on January 31, 2009. The company notified its dealers that it has not been able to find Isuzu Ascender and Isuzu i-Series economically acceptable replacements. Isuzu sold 7,098 cars in 2007. Its implementation did not affect Isuzu's commercial vehicle or operations involving industrial diesel engines. A manufacturing agreement for rental vehicles is shared by Budget Truck Rental, Ford, GMC, and Navistar International with Isuzu.

While the Ascender rides well and comes with a great guarantee, its interior quality and fuel economy are inferior to those of its competitors. The Ascender provides both mid-size SUV agility and jumbo SUV spaciousness. It is identical to SUVs sold under the GM brand, except it has a longer warranty (3 years/50,000 miles) and costs less at launch. Big SUVs with a fuel economy of barely 15 miles per gallon have no place here due to their poor fuel efficiency. Because of its seven-year/75,000-mile powertrain warranty, the majority of reviewers think the Ascender is a good purchase; nevertheless, others think the price is too high for what you get. There is just one trim level for the Ascender, and it comes with the choice of four- or rear-wheel drive.
