2024 Acura RDX Overview

The 2024 Acura RDX probably isn't at the top of the list for those looking for a distinguished compact-luxury SUV. Even though the Acura emblem on its unique nose isn't as noticeable as those on more flashy rivals like the BMW X3, Porsche Macan, or Mercedes-Benz GLC, the RDX is still a strong option for those looking for a ritzier Honda CR-V because of its significantly lower price and generous array of standard features. The 272-hp turbo four-cylinder Acura RDX is a fun car to drive, even with its nonlinear brake pedal and rather awkward gearbox behavior. Acura's dynamic all-wheel-drive system further enhances this fun factor. If buyers can get beyond its dated interior—which lacks the high-end materials seen in rival models and is tainted by a confusing infotainment touchpad—they'll discover useful storage space and cozy seating. The high-performance Type S model found on other Acuras is also absent from the selection, although the A-Spec trim adds more personality—albeit purely aesthetic. Because of this, we believe that the 2024 RDX is most appropriate for those who place a higher priority on solid worth than flimsy prestige.

Cost and Selection of Items for Purchase

The 2024 Acura RDX ranges in price from $45,700 to $53,045 according to the model and extras. Acura only offers one trim level for the RDX, but to liven it up, they offer numerous unique extras. We would skip the A-Spec version because it is expensive and offers no significant performance gains. However, we would advise buying the Technology package, which includes extra features like a fancy leather-trimmed seat, GPS, and an improved audio system. The Advance package comes with a hefty price tag, but it is the only option for those who want adjustable dampers and a head-up display.

Performance, Engine, and Transmission

Each RDX has a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 272 horsepower. It is mated to a 10-speed automatic gearbox and has all-wheel drive, or "SH-AWD" as Acura calls it. The A-Spec model we tested reached 60 mph in 6.2 seconds, which puts it in the middle of the pack for small luxury SUVs. The RDX has a snappy throttle at low speeds and can accelerate out of stoplights with sufficient force for most drivers. Downshifting from the transmission may be done more quickly, especially if the driver makes use of the paddle shifters positioned on the steering wheel. The RDX's turbocharged engine produces a similar high-pitched roar to the NSX's under strong acceleration, but a large portion of that noise is man-made and is sent into the cabin via the speakers of the audio system. Large 20-inch wheels and optional adaptive dampers with ride quality adjustment were features of the RDX we drove. Our test car was never unpleasant or loud, even if it was unable to protect the interior from severe impacts on the hardest roads. The precise-feeling steering of the RDX was enhanced by the torque-vectoring SH-AWD system, which facilitated swift direction changes. The RDX was incredibly well-balanced, barely leaning when we hit a freeway on-ramp. Regrettably, the uneven hardness and responsiveness of the brake pedal made the trip less enjoyable.

Cargo, Comfort, and Interior

There are a lot of buttons, a touchpad, and a sizable rotary drive-mode selection front and center in the somewhat cluttered center stack. The version we drove has the eye-catching red seats from the A-Spec option along with a few other unique stylistic elements. Although the RDX's remarkable build quality and appealing standard features—such as power-adjustable, heated front seats, and dual-zone temperature control—were well received, the car doesn't seem particularly opulent. The Acura offers a more thrilling driving experience than the Honda CR-V could ever hope to offer. The driving position is versatile enough to satisfy driving fanatics and high enough to satisfy SUV lovers, and nothing seems cheap or chintzy. To access the back row, turn a handle on the outboard seats.

Connectivity and Entertainment

A 10.2-inch touchscreen is mounted high on the dashboard of every RDX. A touchpad located in the middle console may also be used to control it. Although Acura describes the controller as straightforward, it took some time for us to get used to it. The RDX is equipped as standard with a Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto capabilities. With the optional Technology package, you may have a 12-speaker ELS Studio audio system, USB connections in the backseat, and integrated navigation.
