Cost and Selection of Items for Purchase
The three-trim Enclave portfolio covers a lot of ground, from near-premium luxury to family-friendly mobility. Regrettably, rivals such as its kissing cousin, the Cadillac XT6, surpass the top-tier Avenir, despite its basic price of about $60k. We would thus choose the value play of the foundational Essence model. Surprisingly, it comes with a lot of basic features, such six USB ports, heated leather seats and steering wheel, Wi-Fi, and wireless charging. We recommend spending the extra money on the Sport Touring option, which adds body-colored door handles for a more streamlined appearance and stylish 20-inch wheels instead of the 18-inch ones. Additionally, a trailering option is available, which includes a hitch, powerful engine cooling, a tow/haul driving mode, and unique hitch views for the backup camera), raising the towing capacity to 5000 pounds. Regardless of trim level, adding all-wheel drive is a $2000 extra.
Performance, Engine, and Transmission
The 3.6-liter V-6 engine and nine-speed automated transmission power every Enclave. With 310 horsepower and 266 pound-ft of torque, it is by no means state-of-the-art. Still, it provides enough propulsion to combine without issue, and in more ordinary circumstances, its reserved demeanor keeps the interior quiet. The V-6 in our Avenir test car was pushed at our test track, and it finished the sprint to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds. Although the suspension is well-maintained, the Enclave prioritizes luxury and comfort above quick reflexes, perhaps because it understands its target market.
Cargo, Comfort, and Interior
The Enclave's roomy, cozy, and well-equipped interior is its best feature. The Enclave is elegantly designed and has a plethora of comfort and convenience amenities, but its attention to detail and material quality prevents it from competing fully with competitor premium brands. The sunshades on the optional panoramic roof are manually controlled, the wood trim has a cheap feel to it, and the sole seat that goes forward to accommodate third-row passengers is the second-row seat on the passenger side—a blatant attempt to reduce costs at the expense of convenience. On the other hand, the Enclave is among the greatest options in this class if cargo space is essential. We equipped 38 carry-on cases with the second- and third-row seats folded down for testing purposes.
Connectivity and Entertainment
An 8.0-inch IntelliLink touchscreen infotainment system is included as standard equipment with the Enclave. incredibly feature-rich, well-arranged, and user-friendly with sharp visuals. For the lowest Essence trim, navigation is available; it is standard on the Premium and Avenir trims. Standard features include wireless charging, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Users may also utilize an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot to connect their devices to the internet. There are two USB ports in each of the three rows, for a total of six wired charging connections.
Features for Safety and Driver Assistance
Buick's Driver Confidence Plus system includes several standard driver-assistance technologies, even for the lowest Essence model. It has front pedestrian braking, rear and front parking assistance, blind zone alert, automated emergency braking, and more. Those who wish to upgrade to features like adaptive cruise control will have to buy an option package or a higher trim level.
- Typical automatic emergency braking that detects pedestrians
- Conventional lane-keeping aids in lane-departure alerting
- Adaptive cruise control is available.
Coverage for Maintenance and Warranty
In addition to providing a warranty that is comparable to that of most competitors, Buick also throws in a free maintenance visit during the first year of ownership.
- A limited warranty is valid for 36,000 miles.
- A powertrain warranty is valid for 60,000 miles or five years.
- Free maintenance is included on the initial visit.
