Cost and Selection of Items for Purchase
The Lyriq's base pricing is for the single-motor Tech level, which includes a fixed glass roof, 20-inch wheels, fake leather upholstery, a big, curved 33.0-inch digital dashboard display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a wireless smartphone charging pad. We advise upgrading to the midrange Luxury trim, which brings with it several desirable options, such as Cadillac's Super Cruise hands-free driving system, wood interior trim, heated front seats and steering wheel, and adjustable ambient interior lighting. Additionally, since the 500-hp Dual Motor AWD model has a 3500-pound towing capability, we would advise springing for it.
EV Performance, Power, and Motor
Back-wheel drive is standard on the Lyriq, and it has an electric motor 340 horsepower mounted on the back axle. The Lyriq feels quick and has respectable acceleration for an entry-level SUV, but it lacks the strong sensation of competitors like the Tesla Model X and the BMW iX. The rear-wheel-drive Lyriq reached 60 mph at our test track in 5.7 seconds, which is slower than competitors' electric vehicle times but still pretty speedy for a mid-size SUV. An additional front motor is added to the 500-hp dual-motor all-wheel-drive drivetrain as an optional feature to drive those wheels. The all-wheel-drive Lyriq reached 60 mph in 4.6 seconds on our test track. Drivers who are enthusiasts will be disappointed by the Lyriq's road manners. Even while the Lyriq seems secure and capable in its handling, it lacks excitement when driven aggressively. Its brake pedal is similarly tactless as the steering, which is beautifully weighted. Fortunately, Cadillac has designed an aggressive regenerative braking system that permits one-pedal driving. In most everyday driving situations, simply depressing the accelerator pedal slows the car down sufficiently to prevent applying brake pressure. On flat pavement, the ride is pleasant, but on bumpier sections of the road, some people could find the suspension to be a little too hard.
Battery life, charging time, and range
With the Lyriq, General Motors unveiled their new Ultium EV battery series last year. The manufacturer can now create batteries ranging in capacity from 50.0 to 200.0 kWh thanks to scalable technology, albeit the maximum size is reportedly exclusively intended for huge EV pickup trucks like the GMC Hummer EV SUT. With a single motor model's projected driving range of up to 308 miles and a dual motor model's estimated driving range of 307 miles, the Lyriq's battery has a capacity of 102.0 kWh. The rear-wheel-drive Lyriq in our highway range test traveled 270 miles before requiring a recharge, while the all-wheel-drive Lyriq covered only 220 miles. In relation to All versions come with the capacity to charge quickly using DC power, and the Lyriq can also be charged using regular household power outlets.
Cargo, Comfort, and Interior
An opulent interior design lends the Lyriq a sophisticated appearance. On the door panels and central console, open-pore wood is mixed with metallic brightwork. Bright blue leather upholstery lines a sizable storage tray between the driver and front passenger, adding a playful flash of color. The real Lyriq features a more conventional rear bench seat, despite the concept car having just four seats and a central console that splits the two front and two rear seats with a touchscreen for the backseat occupants. Not only does the Lyriq's lack of a gasoline engine contribute to its quiet interior, but it also uses cutting-edge noise cancellation technology to lessen road noise. The inside is roomy, but it lacks the load capacity of rival SUVs and Cadillac hasn't included any under-the-hood storage.
Connectivity and Entertainment
Similar to the Escalade, the Lyriq's dashboard is dominated by a massive 33.0-inch curved sophisticated LED touchscreen that doubles as the infotainment system for the SUV and the display for the driver's gauge. For drivers who dislike touchscreens, the infotainment system may also be operated using a click wheel located on the center console. Standard features include a Wi-Fi hotspot, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. All versions include a rich-sounding 19-speaker stereo system from the premium audio specialists at AKG.
