2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Overview

A family-owned car, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup truck has been utilized for many years for a variety of jobs, including working on farms, construction sites, and transporting boats. Several powertrain options are available for the current production model, such as a Duramax diesel, two V-8 engines, and a turbo four-cylinder. Although the ride quality isn't always smooth, the bigger gas V-8 is a standard. Compared to the Ram 1500, the Silverado 1500 is not as opulent inside but does include a large touchscreen. Compared to the Ram 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500, it has a greater towing capability. Although the mud-loving Silverado 1500 ZR2 is available, it lacks the off-road capability of vehicles with more wild abandon, such as the Ford F-150 Raptor and Ram TRX.

Cost and Selection of Items for Purchase

Depending on the specifications and extras, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 might cost anywhere from $37,445 to $64,695. For tradespeople and those on a smaller budget, the entry-level Work Truck and Custom trims are excellent choices; but, the LT model, with its more opulent interior, is the one we believe should be purchased. For the greatest amount of luggage and passenger room, we would also outfit our Silverado with a crew cab and a standard-length bed. The 5.3-liter V-8 engine is faster and less expensive than the available diesel engine, so we'd go with it. In contrast to the typical turbo-four, the V-8 also enables us to choose the Z71 Off-Road package, which comes with a ton of improved gear to make playing in the mud and dirt more enjoyable.

Performance, Engine, and Transmission

There is a Silverado 1500 powertrain for any task or adventure thanks to a variety of engines, including a 3.0-liter inline-six Duramax diesel, two V-8s, and a turbocharged four-cylinder. With 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, the 6.2-liter eight-cylinder engine is the fastest, enabling the Silverado High Country we tested to reach 60 mph in only 5.4 seconds. In contrast, the smaller 5.3-liter with 355 horsepower required 6.1 seconds. 420 pound-feet of torque are produced by the four-cylinder, turbocharged 2.7-liter engine. Although the diesel-powered Silverado we tried had the worst acceleration of the group, we were still pleased with how quiet and smooth the engine ran. Now producing 495 pound-feet of torque, the 3.0-liter inline-six Duramax turbocharged for 305 horsepower. Every Silverado model we've driven seemed more compact than as suggested by its size. The brake pedal offers solid and comforting input, and the vehicle handles with surprising agility. The Trail Boss variant is ideal for those seeking a more robust half-ton Silverado. Gnarly tires, a 2.0-inch raise, and other improvements make choosing the less-traveled route easier and more enjoyable. The most serious off-road vehicle is the new ZR2, which we assess separately.

Cargo, Comfort, and Interior

The Silverado may be outfitted in various ways, ranging from the base Work Truck model to the fully loaded High Country. The only features available on base versions are vinyl seats, manually adjustable front seats, and manual windows and locks. But beginning with the LT level, the interior gets much nicer owing to a more elegant dashboard that features a large center touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. The inside of the High Country is especially attractive because of its open-pore wood trim and leather upholstery. Although the crew cab offers a large rear seat with plenty of headroom, we didn't like the cushions in that area. Nonetheless, this is a useful carrier with shrewdly placed storage compartments all throughout the cabin. The Chevy lacks the half-ton Sierra's carbon fiber-reinforced cargo bed, but it does come with a comparable multifunction tailgate called Multi-Flex. Plus, traditionalists will surely be pleased with the Chevy's assortment of various bed lengths.

Connectivity and Entertainment

A touchscreen infotainment system with compatibility with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a mobile hotspot comes standard on every Silverado 1500. The physical knobs and buttons provide easy system interaction, and we liked how quickly the screen responded to our touch inputs. With improved capabilities including a Google-powered speech assistant, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and optional Amazon Alexa integration, the 13.4-inch touchscreen on models LT and higher is horizontal.

Features for safety and driver assistance.

A comprehensive array of standard driver-assistance technologies is included with every Silverado, and it may be equipped with a variety of towing aids to facilitate the process of towing and connecting a trailer.

  • Automated emergency braking and standard forward-collision warning
  • blind-spot detection and rear cross-traffic warning as standard
  • Regular lane-keeping assistance and lane-departure warning

Coverage for Maintenance and Warranty

  • A limited warranty is valid for 36 months or 36,000 miles.
  • A powertrain warranty is valid for 60,000 miles or five years.
  • Free maintenance is included on the initial visit.
