2024 BMW 5 Series Overview

Despite losing some of the sports sedan sharpness of its predecessors, the 2025 BMW 5-series is still a good option for mid-size luxury cars because to its luxurious interior and cutting-edge technology. Positioned above the tiny 3-series and below the huge and ultra-luxurious 7-series, it occupies a comfortable intermediate position in the BMW sedan portfolio. The dashboard is crammed with digital displays to keep the driver informed and the passengers amused, and the plush seats in the front and back are excellent for both road trips and daily transportation. All-wheel drive is standard on all bar the base model, and you may upgrade to a plug-in hybrid powertrain with 483 horsepower or a turbocharged inline-six engine. The baseline powertrain is a turbocharged four-cylinder. The good news is that BMW's executive sedan now has a minimum of some of its former driving enthusiasm. The next M5 sports sedan (which will be assessed separately) will have to deliver a generous helping of power, agility, and excitement to the 5er family, and we are certain that it will. The 5-series will satisfy just as well as its competitors, the Audi A6, Genesis G80, and Mercedes-Benz E-class, for people who would want to just lounge in calm comfort.

What Is 2025 Bringing?

There aren't many modifications made to the 2025 5-series after a thorough overhaul for 2024. Nonetheless, BMW is expanding its selection this year with the range-topping 550e model, which has a 483-hp plug-in hybrid drivetrain made up of an electric motor, an eight-speed automated gearbox, a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six, and all-wheel drive.

Cost and Selection of Items for Purchase

Depending on the model and extras, the 2025 BMW 5-series is anticipated to start at around $59,000 and go up to $75,000.

Performance, Engine, and Transmission

The 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged 530i, 540i, and 550e models of the 5-series are available with rear- or all-wheel drive and 255 horsepower. The 540i has an inline-six turbocharged engine that produces 375 horsepower and all-wheel drive as standard. An additional 48-volt hybrid system is added to both. All-wheel drive is standard on the plug-in hybrid 550e, which is powered by an electric motor and an inline-six combination producing 483 horsepower. Based on our experience, the 530i offers a smooth ride with a hint of mild agility. With the improved suspension of the M Sport package, the cornering grip is adequate. The M Sport package also has improved brakes, which led to a remarkable 156-foot stop at 70 mph.

0–60 MPH Tempos

The all-wheel drive 530i xDrive reached 60 mph in 5.5 seconds during instrumented testing. BMW claims that the 540i should have the power to reach 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, while the 550e can reach the same speed in 4.0 seconds. We'll add test findings to this article as soon as we have an opportunity to drive the 540i and 550e variants.

Battery life, charging time, and range

With its 19.4-kWh battery pack, the 550e xDrive plug-in hybrid is expected to have a driving range of about 40 miles between charges. We will update this story with actual findings after we have an opportunity to try it out.

Cargo, Comfort, and Interior

Adult passengers may fit comfortably in both the front and back seats of the 5-series, and the interior design is suitably opulent. Genuine leather upholstery is still an option, but BMW also provides Veganza, a vegan-friendly choice. An automated climate control system with vents that are deceptively hidden from view by creative dashboard design is standard on all models. The basic sunroof is a tilt-and-slide model, but you may alternatively choose a huge, permanent glass top that covers the space behind the seats. The Executive package includes an interior camera, a power rear sunshade, and glass interior controls. The optional Luxury Seating package adds heated and ventilated front seats with additional power adjustments and a massage feature. The Premium package adds a heated steering wheel and a head-up display, among other things.

Connectivity and Entertainment

A large curved digital panel including a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 12.3-inch adjustable gauge display is standard on all 5-series vehicles. We've found the technology, which is also present in other BMW vehicles like the iX electric SUV and the 7-series sedan, to be remarkably user-friendly. All versions are equipped with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a Harman/Kardon sound system, and a video gaming system that BMW refers to as AirConsole, which is only usable while the car is parked. A head-up display is an optional feature.

Features for Safety and Driver Assistance

The basic driver-assistance features of the 5-series include automatic emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring. However, more sophisticated capabilities, such as the hands-free driving mode of BMW's Highway Assistant, are available.

  • Typical automatic emergency braking that detects pedestrians
  • Normal lane-departure alert with assistance for lane-keeping
  • Adaptive cruise control with hands-free driving mode is available.

Coverage for Maintenance and Warranty

Although BMW's warranty and free regular maintenance are below average for the class, they are still better than those of the Jaguar XF.

  • A limited warranty is valid for 50,000 miles or four years.
  • Four years or 50,000 miles are covered by the powertrain warranty.
  • Free planned maintenance is provided for three years or thirty thousand kilometers.
