2024 BMW X3 Overview

Are the new sports sedans little luxury crossovers? We'll say "yes" based on how the 2024 BMW X3 handles curves. Based on the legendary 3-series four-door, the X3 combines a practical body shape that can tow more baggage with the same engaging handling and elegant character. This combination of qualities has earned it a spot in our 2024 Editors' Choice list. A 248-hp turbocharged four-cylinder powerplant powers entry-level inline-six thrills with its extra muscle and smooth running. Without using ostentatious embellishments, the X3's design is luxurious enough to be identified as a luxury SUV.

What Is 2024 Bringing?

BMW obviously liked the well-rounded package that the popular X3 SUV had, since for the 2024 model year, the company made no alterations to it.

Cost and Selection of Items for Purchase

The 2024 BMW X3 ranges in price from $47,895 to $62,895, depending on the specification and extras.

Performance, Engine, and Transmission

The rear-wheel-drive sDrive30i and all-wheel-drive xDrive30i, with a 248-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder under the hood, have enough muscle to handle nearly any traffic scenario with ease, but they're not particularly thrilling. We haven't tested a sDrive30i model, but the xDrive 30i took 6.2 seconds to reach 60 mph at our test track. In our tests, the Porsche Macan S and the Audi Q5 were both faster—the Porsche significantly faster. The X3 M40i will appeal to those looking for a crossover with a strong performance component much more. Its powerful 3.0-liter inline-six turbocharged engine produces 382-hp of torque, almost brutal power, and in our tests, it reached 60 mph in 4.1 seconds. Though it doesn't quite provide Macan levels of agility, the X3 seems more capable than other of BMW's existing sedans; it's entertaining to drive and eager to arc around bends better than expected. The ride quality is excellent, with just the right amount of stiffness to give it a sporty feel without making it difficult to ride over uneven terrain. The adaptive suspension was an option that we heartily recommend on our test car. Called Dynamic Damper Control; it adds Comfort, Sport, and Eco Pro driving modes to the xDrive30i. The M40i sports an adjustable M suspension that lowers the chassis by 0.4 inches.

Cargo, Comfort, and Interior

Before you even need to check a single option box, the X3's elegant inside is well-equipped. The front seats' 10-way power adjustment, which includes side bolster adjustments, makes it simple to find a comfortable position. Seatbacks in the rear are reclining, and all of the seats have comfortable enough padding for extended travel. The remainder of the X3's cabin is elegant and expertly constructed, with carefully selected materials and close panel gaps. Our test vehicle's glossy woodgrain trim felt and looked authentic, even though it was made of plastic; the nickel-finish metal trim and the stitched fake leather dash and door covers offer even more luxury. In our carry-on suitcase test, the X3 performs approximately average for the category.

Connectivity and Entertainment

BMW's iDrive interface has all the features an infotainment system in a contemporary premium vehicle should. Along with in-dash navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, a 10.3-inch infotainment display is standard. It is optional to add a bigger 12.3-inch infotainment display. The only basic entertainment features are Bluetooth phone connectivity, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and one USB port. A second USB port and a wireless smartphone charging pad are optional for those who want to charge two devices at once.

Safety and Assistance for Drivers Features

  • Automatic emergency braking that comes standard with forward-collision warning
  • Normal lane-departure alert
  • Adaptive cruise control is available.

Guarantee and Upkeep Reportage

BMW's X3 warranty provisions are comparable to those of its competitors; a four-year or 50,000-mile basic warranty is standard in this market. While it's a great perk, the GV70 and the XC60 both come with three years of free scheduled maintenance.

  • A four-year or fifty-thousand-mile limited warranty is offered.
  • A 4-year or 50,000-mile powertrain warranty is offered.
  • Free scheduled maintenance for a period of three years or three thousand kilometers
