EV Motor, Power, and Performance

There are two iX models available. The first is the xDrive50, which has two electric motors combined to provide 516 horsepower; all-wheel drive is standard. The iX xDrive50 accelerated to 60 mph in under 4.0 seconds during our testing. With its incredible 610 horsepower, the high-performance model, known as the M60, should be able to accelerate the mid-size SUV to 60 mph in only 3.2 seconds. Rear-wheel steering and an adjustable air suspension are standard on the M60 and available on the base xDrive 50. During our first test drive of an xDrive50 model, we saw a comfortable ride, enough power, remarkable energy efficiency, and quick handling.

Range, Charging, and Battery Life

The EPA projects that the iX's huge 105.2-kWh battery pack will provide up to 324 miles of driving range between charges. We were taken aback by the iX's range when we put it through our highway fuel efficiency test at 75 mph. Typically, an EV's total driving range is rapidly reduced by interstate driving and is only a portion of the estimated range; however, the iX achieved an amazing 290 miles of range during our test. In the same test, the 610-hp M60 we tested had a range of 290 miles. With a 200-kW connection, the iX can recharge from 10% to 80% in just 35 minutes thanks to its built-in DC fast charging technology. For iX drivers, BMW has teamed with EVgo to offer a network of public charging stations; however, the SUV may also be charged via a Level 2 home charging station and other well-known networks.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The Bimmer SUV shares similarities in size and passenger and load capacity with the company's mid-size X5 and X6 crossovers. With a plethora of high-tech features including a huge curved touchscreen instrument panel and a hexagon-shaped steering wheel, the iX's interior design is both straightforward and contemporary. Large panoramic sunroofs with electrochromic shade, a rare trick found on very few cars, are available as an option on BMWs. The iX's sound system has speakers embedded into the power front seats, which are also heated. In addition to real leather and synthetic leather upholsteries, BMW also has a textile seat fabric option called Loft that is made of microfiber material.

Connectivity and Entertainment

BMW's iDrive 8 infotainment software was initially launched on the iX, but a free over-the-air upgrade to iDrive 8.5 is now available for download. The program has a voice-activated assistant with customizable menus and visuals. The iX's futuristic dashboard design blends a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster with a large 14.9-inch multimedia display. All models are equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard features, and BMW additionally provides a 5G cellular-enabled Wi-Fi hotspot. A 30-speaker Bowers & Wilkins arrangement is an option, although an 18-speaker Harman/Kardon sound system is the default.

Features for Safety and Driver Assistance

In the iX, BMW provides a full range of standard driver-assistance functions, including as automated high-beam headlights, autonomous emergency braking, parking sensors, and lane-keeping assistance systems.
