2024 BMW M4 Overview

Starting at $79,095

A fire-breathing dragon capable of high-flying acrobatics is the BMW M4 coupe. It's the two-door version of the manufacturer's M performance division's M3 super sedan, boosted for even more thrilling driving. It uses the same vicious 473 horsepower twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engine as the M3, and we salute BMW for including a rear-drive and a six-speed manual transmission as standard. With an eight-speed automatic transmission and 503 horsepower, the ultra-intense Competition grade is available with all-wheel drive. Together with a rather spacious cabin, the M4's firm-riding suspension and precise handling make winding roads into unforgettable experiences. There's also plenty of luxury throughout.

Price and Selection of Items for Purchase

Spending the additional money on the M4 Competition makes sense for various reasons, including the increased torque and horsepower and the availability of all-wheel drive. But for two very excellent reasons—it's the only M4 model with a pleasant manual gearbox, and it rides less harshly—we'd pick the standard M4. Along with the M Drive Professional option (lap timer and onboard drift analyzer) and the M Driver's package (which unlocks a higher top speed and includes a one-day class for high-performance driving), we would also choose the lightweight and exceptionally supportive M Carbon bucket seats.

Performance, Engine, and Transmission

The M4 is powered by a magnificent 3.0-liter inline-six engine with dual turbochargers, available in two outputs. The base model produces 406 pound-feet of torque and 473 horsepower. It is matched with a six-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive. This arrangement reached 60 mph in 3.8 seconds during our testing, and it completed the quarter-mile in 12.0 ticks at 121 mph. The Competition variant is even faster with 503 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, but it only comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The only vehicle available with a rear-biassed all-wheel-drive system is the M4 Competition, which helps to make up for the absence of a stick-shift option. At our test track, the all-wheel drive M4 Competition cut a full second off the stock car's 60-mph time with this setup. All M4s include electronically regulated exhaust systems that become louder in Sport and Sport Plus performance modes, adjustable brake-pedal feel, and adaptive dampers. You may also decelerate the volume by pressing the M Sound button. Additionally, BMW's overabundance of configurable drive-mode choices may lessen the driving experience that the company's engineers intended.

Cargo, Comfort and Inter

The M4 has a range of exclusive materials and various extras inspired by racing, although it shares the same exterior design and passenger capacity as the standard 4-series coupe. Its thick-rimmed steering wheel has two red buttons that let you switch between different M driving modes. Long paddle shifters positioned on the steering column and an abundance of carbon-fibre trim pieces may also be added to improve the interior. The standard M sport seats have a built-in headrest, ventilation, an illuminated logo, and significant bolstering. In addition to being lighter than the regular seats and having an even more adjustable lowering angle, the optional carbon-fibre front seats are incredibly stylish. The rear seat isn't as spacious as it is in the M3.

Connectivity and Entertainment

A sleek infotainment system with a large 14.9-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster is standard on every M4. With its many control choices, the user may utilise voice commands, buttons on the steering wheel, a huge rotary controller, and buttons on the centre console to change settings and traverse menus. The M4's system includes a Harman Kardon audio system, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay as standard features. For those who need even more sophisticated features, there are well-liked solutions like wireless charging pads, subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspots, and gesture controls.

Features for Safety and Driver Assistance

Even though the M4's main goal is to engage drivers, it offers a variety of basic and optional driver-assistance technologies. Important safety characteristics consist of:

  1. blind-spot detection and rear cross-traffic warning as standard
  2. Regular lane-keeping assistance and lane-departure warning
  3. Adaptive cruise control is available.

Coverage for Maintenance and Warranty

BMW offers a competitive powertrain and limited warranty.

  1. A limited warranty is valid for 50,000 miles or four years.
  2. Four years or 50,000 miles are covered by the powertrain warranty.
  3. It is protected for three years or 36,000 miles with free maintenance.
  4. The bmw has a three-year warranty that can be extended
